Zeku guided the speeder bike into the shopping district to see what kind of damage his compatriots had done. Kaladin had already hopped off and was running to the water fountain, Valkyr wasn’t far behind him. Som’s voice crackled over the comlink “Don’t worry guys, we made a clean escape. Let’s meet back at the ship.”
The tail of a land speeder was hanging out of what was once a finely crafted marble water fountain. Water poured into the street, sweeping away the debris from the food carts and flower stands that had unknowingly stood in the path of the rogue speeder. Kaladin stood in front of the fountain, sighing and rubbing the bridge of his nose. “I am calm. I am Serene. I am a drop of water in river. I am a leaf on the-”
“Wow.” Zeku said as he examined one of the destroyed carts “Looks like these flowers caught an early frost.”
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!?”
Valkyr picked up the kebab she had been sniffing and bounded to Kaladin’s side. She cocked her head and chirped at her friend. Kaladin sighed again, resting his hand on the giant cat’s head. “I guess we’re going back to the ship.”
The previous day, the Chimera squad contacted Master Aurek from the hospital to update him on everything they had found about the Stalten family.
Nahova announced their intentions to their benefactor “Apparently they’re operating out of a warehouse by the spaceport. We’re going to check it out now.”
“Have you found out anything about Voren?”
Som laughed “Well, we had a little chat with him over one of his boy’s comlinks. But he didn’t seem to keen to talk with us.”
Aurek was getting excited “Did you try to set up a meeting with him?”
“We need a neutral space to meet him.” Zeku said calmly “think we could use one of these empty warehouses?”
“Yeah” Som yelled “Some place that’s good for a showdown!”
“Wait a minute,” Aurek’s excitement fell to anxiety “We don’t want a big firefight here, we want as few civilian casualties as possible. Remember, discretion is key in this mission.”
Kaladin chimed in “I don’t think Voren’s gonna let it go that way. That’s why we need someplace empty and out of the way.”
“All right, I’ll see what I can come up with. This will probably take a few hours though. I’ll let you know what I can find next time I come to you for an update.”
As the squad approached the compound, a garage door opened to let out a land speeder. None of the inhabitants were Voren, but the group of jedi till decided to split up. Nahova and Som would follow the speeder, Kaladin and Zeku would take to the rooftops and try to find out as much as possible about the compound.
Som followed the land speeder to the shopping district, where it became apparent that the group of thugs were shaking down businesses for protection money. They drove ahead of the Stalten thugs and waited for them to enter a nearby business. They could catch them in the act of taking a payment from a business owner- words were exchanged, fingers were lost, force powers got used. It got very messy very quickly, and the police were called.
Meanwhile, Zeku and Kaladin decided to split up to scope out the compound. Kaladin came across an e-web, shots were fired, sentries were alerted, things got messy. Fortunately, the sentries were intent on finding Kaladin and didn’t expect to find a silver-tongued Zabrak on the rooftops. Between Zeku’s influence and Kaladin divining their thoughts, it was found out that Voren is likely residing inside the compound. After the pair made their escape, they contacted the other half of their squad. “We’re just now leaving the compound, you guys find anything?”
After a brief pause, Som’s voice came over the comlink “Kinda busy now guys!”
Kaladin and Zeku exchanged looks. “Uh, need any help? Where are you? Wait, are those sirens in the background?”
Nahova responded “Cops are right outside and I’m trying to get out. But we’ve got it under control.”
“WHAT! Where are you?”
“Shopping district, but we’re good. Som, come pick me up around back and let’s get out of here.”
“You guys aren’t together!?”
The squad eventually met back up and exchanged information. They didn’t have much new, outside of learning that Voren and an e-web reside at the warehouse compound. Aurek contacted them to see what they had learned, and to inform them that he had a warehouse lined up for them to use in the morning. Unfortunately, Voren didn’t make an appearance in the morning. Instead, Master Aurek came directly to Chimera to tell them that the Staltens had set fire to one of his associate’s businesses. The squad took off in time to stop the thugs from doing too much damage. Zeku and Kaladin stayed behind to make sure no one was in the building, while Nahova and Som took off after the thugs. The shopkeeper told the pair that no one was in the building, but he saw that the culprits were the Stalten thugs who were always coming to him for extortion money.
Som almost lost them, but thanks to Nahova’s keen eyes and sense of direction, they were able to head them off at an intersection. Nahova got the jump on them by jumping onto the middle car, while Som took off after the other two speeders. Nahova took control of the car, but since his driving ability isn’t quite on par with his navigation skills, it quickly became apparent that avoiding the police was more important than catching the Stalten thugs. The Aqualish jammed the throttle and set the wheel into a nosedive as he jumped back into Som’s speeder.
Thankfully, a land speeder with a jammed throttle is an incredibly loud machine, so the shop keepers and passersby in it’s path had plenty of warning. However, the vendor carts that stood in its path were not so lucky.
